Published by
Paige Sommers, a senior at Westlake High in California and a Duke signee, set the national high school outdoor pole vault record by clearing 14-8.50 (4.48m) on her first attempt in the women's elite section at the Vaulter Club Vaulter Magazine Frosh/Soph Championships at the Big Red Barn facility in Sun City, Calif. Sommers, who also eclipsed the American U-20 all-time outdoor mark of 14-8.25 (4.48m) achieved in June at the same venue by Leah Pasqualetti of Orchard Park High in New York, had three unsuccessful attempts at 14-10 (4.52m), which would have surpassed the absolute national prep record of 14-9 (4.50m) achieved indoors in 2019 by Chloe Cunliffe of West Seattle, Wash. Sommers elevated to the No. 6 outdoor competitor in the United States and No. 10 in the world this year. She also equaled No. 15 among World U-20 all-time outdoor performers. More videos |
